Bunch Porto Rico sweet potato is a compact bush-type heirloom variety prized for its copper-colored skin, creamy yellow to light orange flesh, and rich old-fashioned sweet flavor. Its shorter vines make it an excellent choice for containers, raised beds, and smaller garden spaces while still producing dependable yields. This variety is especially valued for baking and roasting, where its dense, smooth texture and deep sweetness really stand out.

  • Season of Interest: Planted after last frost (late May–June in Zone 6b); harvest in late summer to fall, typically 110–120 days after planting (August–October). A compact, bush-type variety that rarely vines.
  • Light Requirements: Full Sun (6–6+ hours)
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained, loose, sandy loam is ideal; avoid heavy clay (causes misshapen roots); pH 5.8–6.2 (slightly acidic); low to moderate fertility — avoid excess nitrogen to encourage root over foliage growth
