Helianthus / Swamp Sunflower (Helianthus angustifolius) is a native, herbaceous perennial that thrives in wetlands, growing 5-8 feet tall and producing 2-3 inch yellow, daisy-like flowers from late summer through fall. It tolerates wet, acidic, clayey soils and is excellent for rain gardens, pollinator gardens, and bird gardens due to its ability to attract native bees, butterflies, and songbirds. The plants are easily divided for sharing and are valued for their fast growth and ability to fill the ecological niche between wetland and upland plants.
