A semi-dwarf Red Rome apple tree produces large, thick-skinned, deep-red apples that are excellent for baking and store well. This late-season variety thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, growing to a mature height and width of about 12–15 feet. Red Rome trees are often not self-fertile and require a compatible apple tree for cross-pollination, though some newer varieties, like Starkspur® Red Rome, are promoted as self-fertile.
- Bloom Time: Mid to late spring. Harvest in early to mid-fall.
- Light Requirements: Full Sun to Part Sun (6 to 6+ Hours)
- Soil Requirements: Well-draining, fertile, acidic to neutral soil is key.
