Allium cernuum, or "Nodding Onion," is a deer-resistant, native perennial known for its bell-shaped clusters of pink or white flowers that hang downward, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. This easy-to-grow plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates both moist and dry, well-drained soil, making it suitable for prairie gardens, rock gardens, and naturalized areas. While all parts are edible and possess a pungent oniony aroma, the bulbs are also a historical food source for Indigenous peoples and become sweeter when cooked.
